Katie Chou

Head Coach

Katie grew up all over—Thailand, Taiwan, LA—before moving to the Bay area to go to Cal where she's been ever since. She joined CWR as a freshman while studying EECS at Berkeley. She hadn't played rugby before college but as there was no club basketball team she joined the team and quickly fell in love with it. She continued her Rugby career post college playing for the Berkeley All Blues and even won a National Championship with them under coach Kathy Flores.  She just recently retired from playing but did not go to far as she stepped up to coach the All Blues and now CWR. We are incredibly excited to be coached by such an inspiring alumn.

Why Chou Likes Coaching

"I love the challenges that CWR presents every year. Not having the varsity status, we don't have the luxury of recruitment like other varsity programs. But that presents an opportunity to introduce this amazing sport to new and first time players. To be able to play a small part in players development, in my opinion, has such a humbling and rewarding experience. I am blessed to have the opportunity every year with CWR."

Hope Cooper

Assistant Coach

Hope grew up in California and started playing Rugby at Cal. She immediately fell in love with the sport and began to play at a high level. With CWR she was both a captain and an All-American. Since graduating in 2020 she has gone into teaching and continued her Rugby journey by playing with the Berkeley All Blues. In 2022 she was part of the Team that won the WPL National Championship. From there she went on to captain the USA U-23 Women's National Team.  We are very excited to have Hope on board to help mentor our players and can't wait to see what she does next.

Evan Hoese

Assistant Coach

Evan started her rugby career as a walk-on at Harvard Rugby and has played ever since. She was named MVP at the collegiate level and on the All-American squad in 2011. Despite facing injury, she went on to play in the WPL and with the USA Eagles.  In 2023, she was a part of the PR 7s championship team. Not only has Evan paved her way as a dominant player, but she is an amazing leader and coach. She coaches the All Blues D2 side, the U23 Grizzlies Select Team, and is the Vice President of the Northern California Rugby Football Union. Evan is currently our backs coach and we are so lucky to have her talent and knowledge on our side.
